P1 Offshore

Class One racing is the highest class of powerboat racing in the world where boats can reach speeds in excess of 160mph, attracting teams from the United States, Dubai and Australia.

The series champion across the five P1 rounds will receive $50,000, with the runner-up earning $35,000 and the third-place finisher $25,000. The purse includes per-race payouts of $5,000 for the winner, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, $1,000 for forth and $500 for fifth place.

One of Sarasota's largest annual events, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, has announced it will change calendar dates. Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, which has traditionally been held over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, will now take place Sept. 13-15, according to a press release.

A single-handed, non-stop round the world race, it's widely known as one of the most challenging and extreme sporting events. Its duration is more than three months and it takes places every four years.

Class 1 is the premier class of offshore powerboat racing in the world and is considered to be one of the most spectacular marine motorsports. A Class 1 race boat has twin inboard 1100hp engines and can reach speeds in excess of 160mph. All boats are limited by a minimum weight of 4,950kg.

There is no prize money for winning the Volvo Ocean Race – just the prestige of overcoming one of the greatest challenges in professional sport. The Trophy is a symbol of a great many sacrifices made by a great many sailors over the years, with each circle representing an edition of the race going back to 1973-74.

The best place to view the Sarasota Boat Races/The Suncoast Offshore Racing Grand Prix, is from Lido Key Beach. The race course runs from New Pass (north of Lido Key/south of Longboat Key) to Big Pass (south of Lido Key/north of Siesta Key).
