They say it's become second nature to them."There's just something that seems to come natural every year. If the father and son get together for the weekend and we go out and we consider ourselves staunch stewards of the lake," says Richard Arnold.Over the decades, the pair has earned a reputation for their teamwork. They are affectionately known as "The Boneheads," a nickname that has stuck with them throughout the years."We have the nickname Boneheads. We've earned it," Richard shares.Nick elaborates, "That's actually our team name for the LCI. The Boneheads. That actually came from my father's friends who call him Bonehead all the time. So the moniker just kind of stuck."Despite finishing as a runner-up in multiple competitions throughout the years, Nick emphasizes that winning isn't their primary focus."We've had some success along the way, but that's not really what it's about. It's more about just getting out and enjoying each other's company. As the LCI says, family and friends and fishing. So that's what it's all about," Nick says.Looking ahead, the Arnolds plan to continue their cherished tradition for many more years.Richard notes, "Depends on my longevity."Nick adds, "As long as they're holding the derby, we'll be there."The 43rd annual LCI Father's Day Fishing Derby runs through the weekend, with the final weigh-in scheduled for Monday.
