Despicable Me 4 promises plenty more chaos and shenanigans with its July 3 release. Poised to make a mark over the holiday weekend as it launches right before July 4, the film marks the latest installment in the franchise. Not counting Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), the last Despicable Me film arrived in 2017, and the third feature introduced Gru’s twin brother Dru (also voiced by Steve Carell).
The fourth film introduces new voices and characters as well — including Will Ferrell’s villain Maxime Le Mal, Sofía Vergara’s Valentina and Joey King’s Poppy Prescott. Several voice actors reprise their previous roles from other films.

More recently, she has played Maxine Simmons on Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, which was renewed for a second season.
The Minions (Pierre Coffin)
Pierre Coffin, who co-directed the first three Despicable Me films, voices the minions in all of them as well.
Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell)
Maxime Le Mal (last name translates to The Bad in French) was a classmate of Gru’s at the Lycée pas bon (high school for villains). He has an obsession with cockroaches, and he plans to use his army of the indestructible bugs to take over the world.
Will Ferrell is known for playing Buddy the Elf in Elf (2003), Ron Burgundy in the Anchorman films, the Mattel CEO in Barbie (2023) and more. He also voiced Megamind in Megamind (2010).
Valentina (Sofía Vergara)
Valentina is Maxime’s girlfriend, and she was a femme fatale back in the day.
Sofía Vergara is known for playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family, Inez in Chef (2014) and has most recently made an appearance as Griselda Blanco in Griselda. She played Cancer in J.Lo’s This Is Me… Now (2024) and Daniella Riva in Hot Pursuit (2015).
Poppy Prescott (Joey King)
Poppy Prescott is a new neighbor to Gru, aka Chet and the Cunningham family when the relocate to Mayflower. She knows Gru’s true identity, and she plans to use that information to her advantage.
Joey King is known for portraying Gypsy Rose Blancard in The Act, Elle Evans in The Kissing Booth films, Prince in Bullet Train (2022) and most recently, Halina Kurc in Hulu’s We Were the Lucky Ones based on the book by Georgia Hunter.
Margo (Miranda Cosgrove)
Margo is the oldest of Gru’s three adopted daughters. She mostly keeps to herself, but she watches out for her siblings.
Miranda Cosgrove has voiced Margo in all four Despicable Me films. She is known for playing Carly Shay on iCarly and Summer Hathaway in School of Rock (2003). She also recently starred in Mother of the Bride on Netflix.
Edith (Dana Gaier)
Dana Gaier has voiced Edith in all four Despicable Me films. She is the middle daughter, and while she is cool as a cucumber on the surface, she has her moments.
Gaier also appeared in two episodes of On My Block as well as Ernesto’s Manifesto (2019).

Agnes (Madison Polan)
Agnes, lover of fluffy unicorns, was voiced by Elsie Fisher in the first two Despicable Me films, and then Nev Scharrel voiced the youngest daughter in Despicable Me 3. Madison Polan took the reins for the fourth film.
Polan’s voicing of Agnes is her first role in Hollywood.
Perry Prescott (Stephen Colbert)
Perry is Poppy’s father and owner of Prescott Motors. He plays tennis at the country club when he’s not working.
Stephen Colbert is known for hosting The Late Show.
Silas Ramsbottom (Steve Coogan)
Silas Ramsbottom is the president of the AVL, which was introduced in Despicable Me 2. He looks out for Gru and Lucy when they are threatened by villains.
Steve Coogan Is known for playing Martin Sixsmith in Philomena (2013), Alan Partridge in Alan Partridge (2013), Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People (2002) and Stan Laurel in Stan & Ollie (2018)
Principal Überschlecht (Chris Renaud)
Principal Überschlect was the leader of Lycée pas bon when Gru and Maxime attended. Chris Renaud also directed Despicable Me 4 in addition to The Secret Life of Pets films, The Lorax and the first two Despicable Me films.
Melora (Laraine Newman)
Melora is a client of Lucy’s while she goes undercover, but the woman ends up with a botched haircut before chasing Lucy and the girls through the grocery store.
Laraine Newman is known for films like Coneheads (1993), Jingle All the Way (1996), Problem Child 2 (1991) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) as well as Saturday Night Live.
Patsy Prescott (Chloe Fineman)
Patsy Prescott is Perry’s wife and Poppy’s mother, who loves to gab. She gets Gru that invite to the country club to play doubles tennis with Perry.
Chloe Fineman is known for her time on Saturday Night Live, Search Party and High Fidelity.
