Herring Gull

Herring Gulls are found near most bodies of water in the game, but they are extremely common in the Bluewater Marsh surroundings and near the northwestern shore of Flat Iron Lake, the big lake that borders the West Elizabeth, Lemoyne and New Hanover regions. Gulls eat everything they can find, so either type of bait will make one appear. Gulls are weak birds, so use the bow armed with small game arrows to score a perfect kill. Gull feathers can be used to create hat accessories as well as other items, while gamey meat can be used in cooking, or eaten as is.

Hooded Oriole

The Hooded Oriole is rarer than the Baltimore Oriole, as it can only appear in the West Elizabeth region. They also appear near the river to the west of Valentine. Being omnivorous, use whichever type of bait you prefer to make one appear. Hooded Orioles are very small birds, so you must use the bow armed with small game arrows to score a perfect kill. Oriole feathers can be used to craft hat accessories as well as other items. Gamey bird meat can be used in cooking, while the carcass can be sold to any trader.

Java Chicken

The Java Chicken is as common as the Dominique Chicken, and it can be found in the same hunting spots: in the Heartlands area of the New Hanover region, near Blackwater, in an area found between the “Y” and “N” in Lemoyne, to the west of the Van Horn Trading Post and right on the “R” in Ambarino on the map. The Java Chicken is also common in New Austin and can be found in the eastern parts of the region. Being omnivorous, either type of bait is good enough to make it appear. As the Java Chicken is a small bird, the only way to get a perfect kill on it is by using the bow armed with the small game arrows. Once killed, it drops feathers and plump bird meat, which are used in crafting and cooking respectively. Feathers are quite useful since they can be used to craft new types of arrows.

Java Rooster

The Java Rooster can be found easily in the same hunting areas of the Dominique Rooster as well as on ranches across Lemoyne, New Hanover, West Elizabeth, and New Austin. These roosters are omnivores, so both the Predator and Herbivore bait will flush them out. Like the other small birds in the game, the only way to get a perfect kill on a Java Rooster is with the bow armed with small game arrows. Feathers and plump bird meat are used for crafting and cooking.

Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever are very common in farms and ranches in New Hanover and New Austin. In case you cannot find one in these locations, you can use either a Predator or Herbivore Bait to flush them out.

Laughing Gull

The Laughing Gull is native to the Lemoyne region and can be found near bodies of water like Lagras or near the road connecting Saint Denis to the Van Horn Trading Post. They also appear near the northwestern shore of Flat Iron Lake. As omnivores, they will be attracted to both the Herbivore and Predator bait. Like all gull species in the game, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of scoring a perfect kill. Gull feathers can be used to craft hat accessories as well as other items, while gamey bird meat can be used in cooking.

Leghorn Chicken

Like other chicken types, the Leghorn Chicken can be found mostly on ranches in the Lemoyne, New Hanover, West Elizabeth, and New Austin regions. They are omnivorous, so either type of bait is good to flush them out. Like other small birds, the Leghorn Chicken can only be killed perfectly with the bow armed with small game arrows. Feathers and plump bird meat are used in crafting and cooking, respectively. All Animal Locations Guide (1)

Leghorn Rooster

Like the other types of roosters, the Leghorn Rooster can be found on ranches in Lemoyne, New Hanover, West Elizabeth, and New Austin. They are omnivores, so any type of bait will flush them out. Being small birds, the only way to get a perfect kill on a Leghorn Rooster is with the bow armed with the small game arrows. Once killed, it will drop feathers and plump game meat, which can be used in crafting and cooking, respectively.

Little Brown Bat

Little Brown Bats are quite common in Red Dead Redemption 2, but they only appear at night. They are carnivores, as they feed on small insects, so the Predator Bait is the bait to use to lure them out. A good hunting spot is located to the north of the “E” in Hanover on the map, to the southwest of Annesburg. To get a perfect kill on Little Brown Bats, you must use the bow armed with small game arrows, as any other weapon will damage the carcass way too much. These animals yield a wing and stringy meat, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Little Egret

Like the Reddish Egret, the Little Egret is mostly found in the swampland in Bayou Nwa, but it’s also possible to find one near the water to the southeast of Caliga Hall. Egrets are carnivores, so use a Predator Bait to flush one out. Like the Reddish Egret, the only way to get a perfect kill on a Little Egret is with the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots. They drop feathers and game meat when killed, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Mallard Duck

Mallard Ducks are quite common in Red Dead Redemption 2, and can be found near most bodies of water on the map, including the swamplands in Lemoyne, the area between the “R” and “I” in Ambarino, the river to the southwest of Valentine and to the east of Annesburg. Mallard Ducks are omnivorous, so both Predator and Herbivore baits will make them appear. Being rather small animals, Mallard Ducks can only be killed perfectly with the bow armed with small game arrows. They yield duck feathers, which can be used to craft several hats as well as game meat, which is used in cooking. All Animal Locations Guide (2)

Merino Sheep

Merino Sheeps are found in ranches and tows in the New Hanover region. A good location where they appear often is located south of the “N” in Hanover on the map. Sheep are obviously herbivores, so use a Herbivore bait to make one appear. Due to their moderate size, you can use the bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater to get a perfect kill on any sheep. They yield their hide and gristly mutton once killed, which are used in crafting a variety of items and cooking, respectively.

Midland Water Snake

The Midland Water Snake is found near the shores in Roanoke Ridge as well as in the swamplands in Lemoyne. Unlike other snakes, you must search in the water. Snakes are carnivores, so only Predator baits can make them appear. The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. They yield perfect snake skin, which can be used to craft a saddle, and stringy meat, which is used in cooking.

Mule

Mules cannot be found in the wild, as they only appear in ranches and farms across New Hanover. They are herbivores, so use a Herbivore bait to make one appear in case you cannot find one to study.

Mutt

Mutt are also somewhat rare, as they can only be found in Saint Denis and Armadillo, New Austin, which can only be explored after completing Chapter 6. Like for any other dog, either the Predator or Herbivore bait is good enough to make one appear.

Neotropic Cormorant

The Neotropic Cormorant prefers wetlands and coastal waters, and it can be found in the same hunting spots of the Double-crested Cormorant. The best one is to the south of Rhodes, on the river bank. Like the other cormorant type, this one is a carnivore, so you need to use a Predator Bait to make it appear. Being slightly bigger than the Double-crested Cormorant, you can get a perfect kill on the Neotropic Cormorant with the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots. You can get feathers and gamey meat by skinning one, which are used in crafting and cooking respectively.

Nine-Banded Armadillo

The Nine-Banded Armadillo is among the animals that can be found only after completing the game since they only spawn in an area found in New Austin. This animal can be found very easily around the town of Armadillo, which can be found directly to the north of the “S” in New Austin on the map. They are omnivores, so they will appear with either the Herbivor or Predator baits. To get a perfect kill on Nine-Banded Armadillos, you must use the Varmint Rifle, as any other weapon will damage the carcass too much. Once killed, you can skin them to get a carapace and stringy meat, which can be used in crafting and cooking.

North American Beaver

The North American Beaver is not a particularly common animal, as it only spawns in select areas of the map, but it’s not all that difficult to find, as it spawns frequently in its hunting areas, which are found to the west of the “A” in Ambarino on the map and right in the gap between the “E” and “R” in New Hanover on the map. The animal is herbivorous, so only a Herbivore Bait will make it appear. Since it’s a very small animal, the Varmint Rifle is the only weapon that can get a perfect kill. A prfect beaver pelt is used to craft a special hat at trappers. Scent Gland, skin and fat are used in crafting and cooking.

North American Raccoon

The North American Raccoon can be found easily in forested areas in Lemoyne, New Hanover, and West Elizabeth. A very good hunting spot is located right to the west of the “N” in New Hanover, as well as to the south of it. Raccoons are omnivores, so any type of bait will make one appear. Being very small, you must use the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots to score a perfect kill. The perfect raccoon pelt can be used to craft a special hat, as well as other items, while stringy meat can be used in cooking.

Northern Cardinal

The Northern Cardinal is among the most common birds in all of Red Dead Redemption 2. It can be found easily in the areas to the southwest of Valentine, as well as near the Van Horn Trading Post and a huge area to the north of Rhodes, mostly in forested areas. These birds are omnivores, so either type of bait can be used to flush them out. Being small birds, you can only get a perfect kill on Northern Cardinals by using the bow armed with small game arrows. Their carcasses can only be sold for money, while feathers are used for crafting a variety of items, including different types of arrows. Gamey bird meat can be used in cooking. Northern Copperhead Snake

The Northern Copperhead Snake appears in the same areas as the Timber Rattlesnake, so search the swamps near Saint Denis or the area to the south of the train track connecting Saint Denis with Rhodes. Northern Copperhead Snakes can be attracted with a Predator or Potent Predator bait. The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of scoring a perfect kill on them. Perfect snake skin is used to craft a saddle, while stringy meat is used in cooking. All Animal Locations Guide (4)

Northern Water Snake

The Northern Water Snake can be found in the same areas as the Cottonmouth and the Midland Water snakes, near the shores in Roanoke Ridge, the swamps in Lemoyne and the area to the south of the train track connecting Saint Denis to Rhodes. They can only be found in the water. They are carnivorous, so use a Predator bait to flush one out. Like all snakes in the game, you must kill them with the bow armed with small game arrows to get a perfect kill. Th perfect snake skin can be used to craft a special saddle, and the stringy meat can be used in cooking.

Old Spot Pig

Old Spot Pigs are just as common as the other pig types are in ranches, towns and farms all over the New Hanover region, but they can also appear in towns outside the region. They are omnivorous, so use whichever bait you prefer to flush one out. Like other pigs, Old Spot Pigs are not all that strong, so you can score a perfect kill on them with either the bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater. They drop a pig hide and tender pork meat, which are used in crafting and cooking, respectively.

Pacific Loon

The Pacific Loon appears in the same hunting spots where the Common Loon appears, and just like them, they are carnivores, so only Predator baits can make one appear. Since loons are very small and weak, only the bow armed with small game arrows is capable of scoring a perfect kill. They drop feathers and gamey bird meat once killed, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Panther

The Panther is among the rarest animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. They appear in forested wetlands in Lemoyne, but they must be as far as possible from towns and cities, so they will not appear in the swamplands near Saint Denis. A good hunting spot is located to the south of Bolder Glade, near the banks of the Lannaheche river. Panthers are unsurprisingly carnivores, so use a Predator bait to make one appear. Panthers are not only resilient, but also very, very quick so you must be extremely careful when hunting them. While the bow armed with improved arrows is good enough to get a perfect kill, you definitely don’t want to get too close to them, so it’s better to use a rifle armed with high velocity or express ammo from a greater distance. The perfect panther fur can be used to craft a special saddle, while big game meat can be used in cooking. Panthers also yield claws and the heart when killed, which can be used for crafting. Pekin Duck

The Pekin Duck can be found in wetlands in West Elizabeth, New Hanover and Lemoyne, in the same hunting areas where the Mallard Duck appears. Like the other ducks, they are omnivorous, so either type of bait can flush them out. Being far from resilient, it’s easy to damage their carcass with most weapons, so you have to use the bow armed with small game arrows to get a perfect kill. The feathers and gamey meat that can be obtained by skinning them can be used to craft hats and arrows and in cooking.

Pileated Woodpecker

The Pileated Woodpecker is native to the New Hanover region, and can only be found inside forested areas. It’s omnivorous, so use either a Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear. Use the bow armed with small game arrows to score a perfect kill. They yield a carcass, feathers and gamey bird meat, which can be sold or used in crafting and cooking.

Poodle

Poodles are among the most uncommon dogs in Red Dead Redemption 2, as they can only be found in Saint Denis and Rhodes, and only in the richest parts of these towns. If you cannot find one, use a Predator or Herbivore bait to flush one out.
